New Gaming Features via Sidekick
Google has announced substantial updates to the Google Play Store (version v53.8) focused primarily on improving the gaming experience. The most prominent addition is the Playbacks feature integrated into the Sidekick interface, which allows users to automatically record the last 30 seconds of gameplay retrospectively. This feature aims to make it easier to share highlights in games without needing to manually start recording all the time, as clips are saved locally on the device.
The Ask Play feature also saw an improvement in response accuracy, now providing relevant video clips to user questions, complete with timestamps and precise quotes directing the user to the exact moment in the video that answers their query. Additionally, users can now share Play Shorts clips via direct links that can be viewed across Android devices, iOS, and web browsers.
Broader Integration with XR Technologies and Connectivity
In terms of Google Play services (version v26.42), Google introduced new support allowing users to connect Extended Reality (XR) glasses to their smartphones more easily, paving the way for better compatibility between devices from various manufacturers.
What is changing practically for users?
- Smoother connection: Users can now pair True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds in the background without interrupting the user experience with the usual alert sounds or vibrations.
- System improvements: The update included speeding up the performance of the Google One storage management page, alongside improving the display of earthquake and crisis alerts to ensure critical information arrives more clearly.
- Developer support: The update added new software features allowing developers to support device connection processes more efficiently within their applications.
Users can obtain these updates by going to phone settings, selecting Google services, and checking for system updates, in case automatic updates are not enabled.
