The Call of Duty series has announced details for Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4, which is scheduled to launch on November 6. DMZ mode players will receive substantial updates, including an entirely new map that will be available just two weeks after the game's launch, reflecting a rapid pace of content delivery.
X01 Facility: A Closed and Labyrinthine Combat Environment
The most prominent addition is the new map with the code name X01, which is a secret weapons facility belonging to GRANIT Arms, located near the northern border of North Korea. This area differs radically from the previous "Hajin" map, as it consists of a complex and dark network of interconnected corridors, tunnels, and rooms surrounding a secret weapons production line.
The area is characterized by its vertical and enclosed nature, making movement dependent on narrow paths, which imposes significant tactical challenges. Players will also encounter the Spirits NK faction active in the area, which is advised to be avoided in direct confrontation due to its danger. The well-known character Ghost will play the role of the Watcher to facilitate infiltration operations into this facility.
Forward Operating Base Updates and New Events
The update will not be limited to the map only, but will also include improvements to the Forward Operating Base (FOB), most notably:
- Equipment Updates: Addition of new weapons and equipment via the Vendor, some of which are linked to the BlackCell pass.
- 3D Printing Station: Addition of new features whose details remain secret.
- Lieutenant System: Addition of new Lieutenants and bosses to the Boss Board.
The season will also witness the launch of two main events: Threat Briefing, which requires confronting "The Captain" or a combat tank to extract armor parts, and Resupply Run, a speed-based event in the "Hajin" area to collect specific items in exchange for high-value equipment such as self-revive kits and protection armor.
What Changes in Practice?
This update represents a shift in the DMZ mode experience through several points:
- Change in Combat Style: The transition from open spaces to labyrinthine and enclosed environments (X01) forces players to rely on stealth and close cooperation instead of open confrontations.
- Accelerating the Content Cycle: Providing a new map within two weeks of launch indicates Activision's strategy to maintain game momentum and prevent player decline.
- Deepening the Risk and Reward System: By linking the acquisition of advanced equipment to specific combat events, increasing the tactical value of each mission.
