Mintive, a startup specializing in providing identity management and control solutions for AI agents in the enterprise sector, has successfully raised a total of $11 million in funding, including a $7 million seed round led by Cowboy Ventures.
Founder Background and Funding Round
The company was founded by graduates with deep expertise in the field of artificial intelligence: Jiquan Ngiam, who served as a founding engineer for Coursera and a neural networks researcher on the Google Brain team, and Vijay Vasudevan, a co-founder of the TensorFlow platform. The company has attracted interest from prominent tech investors, including Coatue and Frederic Kerrest, co-founder of Okta, in addition to notable figures such as Jeff Dean and Andrej Karpathy.
Platform Architecture and Agent Control Capabilities
Mintive targets a market crowded with solutions and products seeking to govern and provide secure identities for AI agents within enterprises. The platform offers a comprehensive suite of technical tools, including a communication gateway based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to enable IT administrators to define permissions and actions that agents are allowed to execute on cloud services.
The platform also includes a Large Language Model (LLM) gateway to route requests across multiple models and set financial cost caps, as well as identity and permission management for agents—which may differ from those of human employees—and a comprehensive monitoring system to track the activity of all AI agents within the organization.
Why This News Matters
With the rapid proliferation of autonomous AI agents in enterprise work environments, there is an urgent need for infrastructure that provides clear and reliable visibility for security control and permission governance. Mintive focuses on simplifying the deployment process and abstracting technical complexities related to sandboxed environments and memory, an approach that has already attracted over 50 enterprise customers since the product's launch last February, such as the University of Michigan, Coursera, and Stability AI.
