Revolut valuation rises 53% to $115 billion amid preparations for US bank launch

Investors in the British fintech company Revolut have completed a secondary share sale that raised the company's valuation to $115 billion, marking a 53% increase compared to the valuation achieved in a previous share deal one year ago, at a time when the company is planning to launch a bank in the United States in 2027.

The share sale—which did not inject new funds directly into the company's treasury—was led by a group of prominent investment institutions including Glade Brook Capital Partners, Coatue, Durable Capital Partners, T. Rowe Price Associates, and Baillie Gifford, while the company declined to disclose the volume of shares sold.

Global expansion and US licensing

Founded in 2015 by Nik Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko, the company has gradually evolved from a money transfer app into a comprehensive financial services platform with over 80 million retail customers across more than 40 countries. During the current year, the company established banking operations across Europe and launched banks in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand, in addition to obtaining banking licenses in France, Colombia, and Argentina.

In the US market, the company received conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a national bank, and it intends to launch it during the first half of 2027, subject to obtaining final regulatory approvals. Financially, the London-based company achieved growth in its profitability, recording profit margins of 38% on total revenues that reached $6 billion in 2025.

Business sector growth

Although the bulk of the company's business is built around individual consumers, the corporate banking sector, which was launched in 2017, has become a profitable and growing source of revenue. This division accounts for about 20% of Revolut's total profits, according to statements by James Gibson, head of the business sector and a partner at the company.

Revolut Business processes monthly transactions exceeding £36 billion (equivalent to about $48.6 billion), including more than £1 billion in the United States alone. This sector generates annual revenues exceeding £950 million (about $1.28 billion) and holds customer deposits of more than £18 billion (about $24.3 billion).

What does this mean for users and markets?

The rapid rise in the company's valuation and the preparation for launching US banking services reflect Revolut's ability to expand its global market share and diversify its income sources between the retail and business sectors. The company aims to bring its corporate banking services to new markets including Mexico, Brazil, and India, while seeking to increase its commercial customer base from over 800,000 companies to one million companies by 2027.

This financial and expansionary momentum comes at a time when the company is considering a potential initial public offering that could value it at about $200 billion, with the likelihood that this offering will take place in New York or London no earlier than 2028, subject to market conditions and the development of regulatory plans.
