Microsoft Completely Updates Xbox Apps: Faster Design and Improved User Experience for Cloud Computing

Microsoft has announced the release of a completely updated version of Xbox apps dedicated to personal computers, the web, and cloud gaming, with a primary focus on boosting performance efficiency and improving the user interface to become smoother, especially when using controllers.

A Leap in Performance and Responsiveness

According to Jason Beaumont, Vice President of Xbox Experiences, the new app features a launch speed up to 60% faster than the previous version. Main pages such as Home, Store, and Game Pass have also seen a 50% improvement in loading speed, while in-app windows open 65% faster.

This update came in response to the growing need to provide a console-like experience on the Windows system, especially after the launch of portable Xbox Ally devices last year. Navigation within the app has been simplified to be more responsive to controllers, with reduced reliance on the mouse. Additionally, the Library section has been updated with enhanced filters and better ways to organize installed games.

Enhancing Social Features and Cloud Access

On the social front, Microsoft has added new features that allow users to see their friends list directly on the home page, providing quick buttons to start chatting or join parties. Animations and user interface elements have also been updated to give the feel that the app operates as a native environment rather than just a web interface.

The update is not limited to PC alone; it extends to the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience via the web, which will feature an interface similar to the PC app. The updated web version includes a new Library tab that highlights cloud games, in addition to a Desktop mode that better utilizes large screens. The company has also added advanced accessibility options, including dark and light modes, and five new high-contrast options.

What is Changing Practically?

This update represents a strategic step by Microsoft to unify the Xbox experience across various platforms. By narrowing the gap between the PC experience and the console experience, the company aims to make cloud gaming and mobile devices more attractive and easier to use. With future expansion to include smart TVs and virtual reality (VR) headsets, Microsoft seeks to ensure that players find the same ease and speed in accessing their games regardless of the device being used.
