Leadership Change at Tandem Diabetes Care: Jeannette Bankes Assumes CEO Role

Diabetes management technology company Tandem Diabetes Care has announced the appointment of Jeannette Bankes as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding John Sheridan, who has decided to retire at the end of the current year. Bankes is scheduled to officially begin her duties on November 16, 2026.

New Leadership Background

Bankes brings over 30 years of operational experience, having most recently served as President and CEO of Patient Care Solutions at GE HealthCare, a $3.1 billion business unit encompassing monitoring products, cardiac diagnostic devices, and anesthesia technologies. During her tenure, she contributed to driving growth and profitability for the company, and she previously served as Global Franchise President at Alcon.

Sheridan's Legacy and Future Company Directions

John Sheridan has served as CEO since 2019, after joining the company in 2013 as Chief Operating Officer. Under his leadership, the company witnessed the launch of important technologies such as the first hybrid closed-loop system and a small-sized tubed insulin pump.

What This Change Means for the Company

This transition comes at a critical juncture for Tandem, as the company focuses on several strategic technical priorities outlined by Sheridan before his departure, including:

  • Developing a tubeless insulin pump.
  • Working on a fully automated insulin delivery system (fully closed loop).
  • Expanding coverage scope through pharmacy channels.

Sheridan noted that the company is in advanced stages of U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) review for the Mobi Tubeless device, and the company is also collaborating with the University of Virginia to develop a fully automated system aimed at helping type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients achieve target blood glucose levels without the need for frequent manual data entry, with plans to begin a pivotal study for this system before the end of the year.
