Chinese company Moonshot AI, the developer of the Kimi model, is targeting an annualized revenue run rate of $2 billion by the end of 2026, double the revenue run rate reported for August. This comes despite a slight decline in usage and amid accusations from Anthropic that the company relied on a broad campaign to extract outputs from its models.
Garry Tan, CEO of Y Combinator, believes that smaller U.S. labs developing open-weight models should be able to use model-distillation techniques on advanced American models, rather than leaving this path exclusively to Chinese labs. He frames this as a way to maintain a balance between closed commercial models and open models, while rejecting the use of stolen credentials or fraudulent methods.
ITmedia argues that growing interest in running large language models locally is explained not only by concerns about reliance on cloud services, but also by the maturation of three elements: open-weight models, hardware, and software. The first part of the series focuses on the evolution of models, with DeepSeek, Qwen, and other Chinese models emerging prominently.
A report by Google and an Accenture expert says that artificial intelligence has entered most stages of cyberattacks, while open-weight models are lowering the cost of reconnaissance and vulnerability discovery. Companies should therefore combine breach-impact reduction, patch-debt management, and the use of artificial intelligence to discover their vulnerabilities before attackers do.
