Egypt witnessed the signing of a partnership between Vodafone Business, Elsewedy Electric Group and Cassava Technologies to establish Africa Data Centres Egypt, which aims to create one of the country’s largest data centers, in addition to developing Egypt’s first sovereign artificial intelligence data center, according to the announcement made during the signing ceremony attended by Eng. Raafat Hindy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
The project will begin with a targeted operational capacity of 20 megawatts during the first three years, with an expansion plan reaching 200 megawatts. Foreign direct investment in the first phase is estimated at approximately $200 million, while total investment could reach $1 billion upon completion of the targeted capacity. The project is also expected to provide up to 200 direct jobs and approximately 2,000 indirect jobs, relying on Egyptian talent in construction, operations and management.
A Combination of Data Centers and Artificial Intelligence
The project brings together Vodafone Business’s expertise in cloud and enterprise services, Elsewedy Electric’s capabilities in infrastructure, energy and project execution, and Cassava Technologies’ experience in data centers across Africa. The center aims to serve large enterprises, cloud service providers and global companies seeking to launch or expand their operations from Egypt.
Alongside the public data center, the partnership includes developing sovereign artificial intelligence infrastructure that will enable advanced applications and use cases to operate inside Egypt, while providing advanced computing capabilities and Nvidia technologies. The announced services include the GPU-as-a-Service model, allowing organizations to develop and operate artificial intelligence applications while hosting and processing data inside the country.
