Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA), headed by Dr. Islam Azzam, has issued a set of decisions granting 7 companies and entities official approvals for establishment, registration, and licensing to engage in various activities in the capital market and non-banking finance. This step comes within the framework of the authority's strategy to expand the base of non-banking financial services and deepen the role of financial technology in the local economy.
Major Expansions for Fintech Giants
The decisions included granting e-finance for Financial Investments a license to engage in the activity of participating in the establishment of companies that issue securities or participating in increasing their capital, which enhances the group's role as an investment and technological arm in the financial sector. In a related context, Fawry Consumer Finance obtained preliminary approval to add the activity of factoring to its core purposes, along with starting the procedures for amending its bylaws and changing its commercial name to suit the new activity, which allows the company to provide broader financing solutions for businesses and individuals.
In the technical solutions sector, the authority approved the registration of Sympl Financial Solutions and Technology in the register of companies collecting financial receivables for companies and entities operating in non-banking finance. With this decision, the number of companies registered in this activity rises to 12 companies, reflecting the growing demand for digital and technical collection solutions in the Egyptian market.
New Licenses in the Capital Market and Brokerage
The package of decisions also included aspects related to underwriting promotion and investment management, as approval was granted for:
- Establishing Shirea for Underwriting and Promoting Securities to operate in accordance with the provisions of the Capital Market Law.
- Granting Golden Way for Securities and Bonds Trading a license to engage in dealing and brokerage in bonds as an additional activity.
- Licensing Olive Egypt Holding to engage in the activity of participating in the establishment of companies issuing securities.
- Granting Business Community for Financial Investments a license to manage securities portfolios and investment funds.
What Changes Practically in the Financial Landscape?
These approvals indicate an important shift in the business model of fintech companies in Egypt; as they are no longer content with providing payment services or simple consumer finance, but have begun to transform into integrated financial entities offering factoring, portfolio management, and debt collection services. This expansion gives companies greater flexibility in liquidity management and providing innovative credit solutions based on big data and digital technologies.
The decisions also reflect the role of the authority's establishment and licensing committee in accelerating the pace of entry of new players or adding financial instruments to existing companies, which contributes to enhancing financial inclusion and providing non-traditional financing channels for startups and medium-sized enterprises through mechanisms such as factoring and underwriting.
