Permanent discontinuation of Arc browser in December and shift towards the AI-powered Dia browser

The Browser Company has announced its intention to permanently discontinue the popular web browser Arc on December 22, 2026, in a move paving the way for the company to fully shift its focus toward developing its new artificial intelligence-based browser named Dia.

The company explained, via a farewell message published by founder Josh Miller titled "Goodbye, Arc," that the massive acceleration in AI technologies alongside growing security challenges necessitated redirecting engineering and security teams to develop a product suited to modern threats, confirming that the Dia browser was specifically designed to keep pace with these requirements and deliver superior stability and performance compared to Arc.

Timeline for discontinuing Arc and transitioning to Dia

The company has outlined a clear and scheduled transitional plan to gradually end Arc's services and facilitate user migration:

  • Current status: Account creation for new users has been halted on the Arc browser, while data export remains available for existing accounts.
  • November 23, 2026: The iOS and Android versions of the browser will lose AI features and the advanced search feature (Browse for Me), while the search feature on computers remains temporarily available without the ability to log in or sync tabs.
  • December 22, 2026: The final deadline for the browser to stop working completely, be removed from all app stores and platforms, and disable accounts, with all personal data associated with them to be permanently deleted after 30 days.

What changes practically for users?

As the closure date approaches, the company has provided tools allowing users to easily transfer their data and personal profiles to the alternative Dia browser. This data includes passwords, bookmarks, browsing history, extensions, along with workspaces, folders, and tab groups.

Despite Dia's fundamental reliance on artificial intelligence technologies, the company emphasized that users can ignore these smart features and choose not to use them if they wish to maintain a traditional browsing experience free from those tools.
