Egyptian Ministry of Labor Announces "Digital Labor Platform" as Part of 2030 Economic Transformation Plan

Digital Transformation as a Pillar for the Labor Market

Egyptian Minister of Labor, Hassan Shehata, announced the outlines of the Ministry's plan within the National Economic Transformation Program for the period (2027-2030), which focuses fundamentally on accelerating digital transformation as a key tool to enhance labor market efficiency. Through this plan, the Ministry aims to provide 3 million job opportunities, while working to reduce the unemployment rate to 5.5%.

Key Technical Initiatives in the Plan

The Ministry's strategy includes a set of technical projects aimed at organizing and developing the work environment, most notably:

  • Digital Labor Platform: Launching a unified platform aimed at collecting and analyzing labor market data, which facilitates access to information and streamlines services provided to workers and establishments.
  • Digital Integration: Integrating data on people with disabilities by linking with the "Taheel" platform to ensure data inclusivity and facilitate their integration into the labor market.
  • Digitization of Services: A full transition toward providing Ministry services digitally to reduce bureaucratic procedures.
  • VIP Service Centers: Establishing 7 centers in partnership with the private sector, technically equipped to facilitate work permit procedures for foreigners and support startups.

Why Does This Transformation Matter?

This approach represents a qualitative shift in managing the employment file in Egypt, as it relies on Big Data and digital analysis to link vocational training outputs with actual market needs. By strengthening the role of "Sectoral Skills Councils" and using digital platforms, the Ministry seeks to reduce the gap between available skills and the requirements of growing economic sectors, which enhances the competitiveness of the national economy and creates a more flexible and attractive work environment for investments.

Developing the Protection and Oversight System

In addition to the digital aspect, the plan focuses on increasing the efficiency of inspections of establishments using modern monitoring tools, activating the role of the National Council for Wages to ensure a balance between wages and living costs, and expanding the insurance protection umbrella for workers in the private sector, reflecting a trend toward building a more stable and organized labor market.
