Singaporean PropTech startup Rently has secured $12 million in credit facilities from the investment firm January Capital. This funding aims to support the company's geographic expansion plans and enhance its digital rent payment solutions in its current markets, which include Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates.
The Rently platform, founded by Dominic Schacher, Tariq Stafford, and others, relies on a business model that provides tenants with flexible rent payment options, including the "Rent Now, Pay Later" (RNPL) service. This service addresses the financial gap between tenants' monthly salary cycles and the requirements of landlords, who typically request large upfront rent payments via annual or semi-annual checks.
Accelerated Performance in the UAE Market
The company has shown strong growth in its operations within the UAE, with the value of lease contracts processed through its platform exceeding AED 100 million. Additionally, transaction volume in the UAE market recorded an increase of more than fivefold year-on-year. Across its operations in the three markets, annual transaction volume has surpassed the $50 million mark, with a user base of more than 2,400 tenants relying on the platform to organize their payments.
Why Does This Development Hold Technical and Financial Significance?
The core value of what Rently offers lies in its ability to integrate financial technology (FinTech) with the real estate sector to solve liquidity issues. Technically, the company uses artificial intelligence technologies to automate operational processes, giving it the ability to scale rapidly and manage a massive transaction volume with high efficiency without the need for a parallel increase in human resources.
This expansion also coincides with regulatory trends in the region, such as the "Flexi Rent" initiative launched by the Dubai Land Department, indicating a legislative environment that supports the transition toward digital and flexible payment solutions and reduces reliance on traditional systems like post-dated checks.
Future Plans and Funding
In addition to the current credit facilities, Rently is preparing to launch a Series A funding round aiming to raise between $10 million and $15 million. The company plans to use these investments to develop new technical products and enter additional markets by 2027, focusing on strengthening its technological infrastructure to serve a larger base of tenants and landlords.
