Google is currently testing new improvements to the "Find in Page" tool in the Chrome browser, aimed at enhancing search efficiency and facilitating navigation between results, features that were spotted in the "Canary" experimental version.
Case-Sensitive Search Feature
The current search tool in Chrome relies on case-insensitive search, as it does not differentiate between uppercase and lowercase letters. This means that searching for the word "Web" will also show results including "web" and "WEB". To solve this issue, Google has added a new "Match case" button, which will allow users to search for words or phrases that exactly match the case, eliminating the need to rely on external extensions to perform this simple task.
Improvements in Result Navigation
In addition to the case-matching feature, tests revealed the addition of new navigation buttons labeled "Previous outside view" and "Next outside view". The importance of these buttons lies in their ability to skip results that are already visible to the user on the screen, and jump directly to the next or previous results located in other parts of the page.
Why This News Matters
These enhancements serve as quality-of-life improvements that increase browsing productivity, especially when dealing with long web pages containing many repetitions of the desired word. Instead of going through every visible result, the user will be able to smartly jump to invisible results, saving time and effort.
It is worth noting that these features are still in the testing phase within the developer version, and Google has not yet confirmed an official release date for the stable version of the Chrome browser.
