Google Tests Integrating "Take a Message" Auto-Reply with "Transit Mode" on Pixel Phones

Google is working on a new feature for Pixel phones aimed at improving the call management experience while on the go and using public transportation. According to an analysis of code in the latest beta version of the Phone app, the company is moving toward linking the missed call automated voice reply and message recording feature known as Take a Message, which carries the internal codename Beesly, with the Transit mode.

Anticipated Integration Between Transit Mode and Voice Reply

Code in version 245.0.1006864670-publicbeta-pixel2026 revealed clear references to a new software component named BeeslyTransitModeService, alongside scripts indicating attempts to automatically activate the service when Transit mode is turned on. The code included custom notifications for missed call scenarios while this mode is enabled, suggesting the provision of an option to run the voice reply feature exclusively during transit rather than leaving it active all the time, in addition to supporting various countries whether they allow full text transcripts or only audio recording.

Simplifying Call Gesture Settings

Alongside the upcoming integration feature, the analysis detected an additional modification to the Phone app interface aimed at simplifying how incoming call gestures are changed. Instead of having to open an additional screen and select the current option first, Google is considering placing a toggle switch directly on the main settings screen to save users extra steps.

What Changes Practically?

This development represents a step toward integrating various system features to meet user needs during times that require fewer distractions, such as daily commuting. Rather than relying manually on the missed call voice reply feature, the anticipated linkage allows it to be activated automatically and in compatibility with notification blocking and call restriction settings in transit mode. However, these features remain under development within the source code, and Google has not yet officially announced their final release date for users.
