Egypt’s Ministry of Industry is working to strengthen digitalization in the industrial sector through the Unified Digital Platform to Support Manufacturers, which brings together services directed at industrial investors and factories during the various stages of a project, beginning with studying the idea and preparing the feasibility study, continuing through establishment, operation, and expansion, and ending with marketing products and reaching new markets.
The platform comes as part of an approach to building an industrial environment based on data and digital connectivity among manufacturers, government entities, and the components of supply chains. According to what the ministry announced, this connectivity can increase the efficiency of services provided to the sector, improve the competitiveness of local products, and support opportunities for integration among industries.
Managing Complaints and Monitoring Service Performance
The platform enables manufacturers to file complaints and track them according to specified time limits that are binding for responses, with coordination among the Ministry of Industry and the relevant entities and ministries. It also displays real-time performance indicators, including response times, completion rates, patterns of recurring problems, and manufacturers’ satisfaction levels.
A follow-up committee within the Ministry of Industry reviews unresolved complaints with the aim of speeding up their handling and enhancing transparency and impartiality in addressing the sector’s problems. In practice, this provides a clearer path for following up on requests, rather than merely submitting a complaint without publicly disclosed indicators showing the stages of handling it.
Connecting Factory Needs with Suppliers
The platform includes a digital database of local production inputs. The database allows factories to display the production inputs they provide, while other factories can register their needs and make them available to suppliers. This track aims to increase reliance on local suppliers, deepen manufacturing, and reduce dependence on imports, while opening opportunities for small and medium-sized companies to enter industrial supply chains.
The platform also provides a digital marketplace for finished industrial products, enabling manufacturers, traders, and exporters to learn about the products on offer, with the possibility of holding virtual meetings among the parties. The ministry does not intervene in the commercial or financial aspects of transactions that may arise through this channel.
What Changes in Practice for Investors and Factories?
The ministry launched the “Calculate Your Opportunity” service to help investors assess industrial ideas more quickly. The service relies on artificial intelligence technologies to analyze project data, prepare a preliminary feasibility study within minutes, and provide initial indicators regarding feasibility and chances of success.
These results do not replace specialized studies; they represent a starting point for making an initial decision before moving on to prepare more detailed studies. The platform also targets distressed factories by connecting them with financing institutions and providing partnership and investment opportunities with investors seeking to expand in industrial sectors.
The Ministry of Industry is calling on factories and industrial establishments to register and create an industrial profile, add products to the Industrial Products Catalog, and register their needs for production inputs. As the database expands, the platform may provide more accurate indicators of domestic demand, products in circulation, and gaps in supply chains, helping identify investment opportunities, support feeder industries, and formulate industrial policies. Its success will remain linked to the extent to which the registered data is transformed into faster services and industrial decisions that are genuinely based on information.
