Fiat launches its 2027 Topolino micro electric car in the US market at an economical price

Fiat has officially announced the launch of the 2027 model year of its micro electric car "Topolino" in the US market. This step enhances the company's presence in the low-speed electric vehicle (LSV) category, with the car being offered at a starting price of $14,985, including delivery fees, making it one of the most economical electric options currently available on the market.

Technical specifications and compact design

The "Topolino" is characterized by its extremely small size, which does not exceed 2.5 meters (8 feet and 3 inches) in length, making it much smaller than the famous "Fiat 500e" model. Despite this size, it is federally classified in the United States as a vehicle valid for driving on public roads where speed limits do not exceed 35 miles per hour. The car is powered by an 8-horsepower electric motor, supported by a 5.4 kWh lithium-ion battery.

This system provides a driving range of up to 46 miles (about 74 kilometers) on a single charge, with a top speed electronically limited to 25 miles per hour (40 km/h). Practically speaking, the battery can be fully charged via a standard household electrical outlet in about five hours, eliminating the need to install specialized and expensive charging stations at home.

Body options and safety standards

The 2027 model is available in three body options to suit different user tastes: the standard closed model, the "Dolce Vita" model, and the all-new "Open Air" model. The "Open Air" model features a retractable fabric roof that provides an open-air driving experience, while maintaining the full asymmetric doors that characterize the car's basic design.

To ensure compliance with strict traffic laws, Fiat has equipped the car with an integrated safety package including a rearview camera, an interior mirror, and an acoustic pedestrian warning system to compensate for the quietness of the electric motor, making it ready for street use immediately upon delivery from the dealer without the need for additional modifications by the owner.

What changes practically for users?

The "Topolino" represents a shift in how mobility within crowded cities or gated communities is viewed; it is not a car intended for long trips or highways, but rather a safe and comfortable alternative to golf carts and electric bicycles. Its true value lies in its ability to move between residential neighborhoods, beach resorts, and camping areas, with the ability to park in the smallest possible spaces.

Unlike previous batches that required some additions to become fully legal, the 2027 model arrives at showrooms compliant with all required specifications for street driving. Fiat has also started offering additional facilities including free home delivery for customers living within 50 miles of an authorized dealer, greatly facilitating the acquisition process for this category of vehicles.
