A Shift in the Assassin's Creed Development Strategy
Ubisoft has officially confirmed that there are currently no active projects to remake previous installments of the famous game series Assassin's Creed, despite the success achieved by the game Black Flag Resynced. The company explained that it is directing its development efforts entirely toward preparing the next chapter of the series, which will include completely new titles, environments, and stories whose details have not yet been revealed.
Ubisoft stated that rebuilding the old systems from scratch in Black Flag Resynced, adding new elements suited for the modern experience while maintaining a balance between the game's heritage and innovation, required massive engineering and technical effort. Although the company does not rule out returning to remake older games in the future, the current priority lies in delivering entirely new experiences to the audience.
Updates to Current Titles and Future Projects
In parallel with this direction, Ubisoft released the final major update for the game Black Flag Resynced, which included the new game mode (New Game+) and a higher difficulty level. The company also announced the availability of the (New Game+) option for the 2020 game Assassin's Creed Valhalla, starting from November 5, alongside additional improvements dedicated to modern console platforms.
Regarding future projects currently under development, the company revealed the following details:
- Codename Invictus Project: A multiplayer project developing in a direction that re-integrates the core features of the series based on initial player test feedback.
- Codename Hexe Project: The next main installment in the series offering a darker experience, with the development team making steady progress and planning to showcase a major update about it in 2027.
- Netflix Live-Action Series: Production work on the series adapted from the franchise is nearing completion, with no official release date announced yet.
What Changes Practically for Developers and the Audience?
This decision reflects a clear shift at Ubisoft to avoid draining resources on costly remakes and instead focus on innovation and new content development. As the twentieth anniversary of the franchise's launch approaches in 2027, the company is keen to reorganize the priorities of its software production lines, giving developers more space to deliver modern gameplay mechanics rather than being preoccupied with adapting old engines to modern platforms.
