Meta’s AI Agent Muse Surpasses 5 Million Downloads in the United States in 22 Days

Meta’s Muse app surpassed 5 million downloads in the United States within 22 days of its launch, according to Sensor Tower estimates. However, its rapid growth was influenced by an intensive advertising campaign, and download figures alone do not reveal regular usage or subscription success.

Meta’s AI Agent Muse Surpasses 5 Million Downloads in the United States in 22 Days

Meta’s personal AI agent Muse surpassed five million downloads in the United States within 22 days of its launch on September 8, according to estimates from Sensor Tower. The app allows users to delegate a range of digital tasks, such as browsing the internet, sending email, and organizing travel bookings.

According to Sensor Tower data, ChatGPT reached five million mobile downloads in 56 days, while Grok took 103 days and Claude reached the same figure after 492 days. Muse also topped the U.S. App Store’s free-app rankings for 12 days.

Rapid growth under different launch conditions

Comparing the apps does not mean their launch conditions were identical. Muse was available in the United States and Canada on both iOS and Android, while Grok and Claude were limited to iOS during their first five days of availability, affecting the speed at which they could reach users.

Sensor Tower data indicates that the marketing campaign played a clear role in this performance. On September 16, Meta increased its advertising spending on Muse, causing daily downloads to rise 73% compared with the previous day. Between September 14 and 27, Muse’s share reached 50% on some days of the impressions of Meta ads promoting its own products. The app also entered the list of the 15 largest brands by advertising exposure in the United States during the week of September 21 to 27.

What does Muse do?

Meta says Muse operates on a cloud computer dedicated to the user and uses its own browser to perform tasks such as filling out forms, shopping, and arranging trips. It can continue lengthy tasks even after the app is closed, then return to the user when there is an update or approval is needed.

Examples of its use include converting a recipe saved on Instagram into a shopping list, or preparing a plan for a goal specified by the user and tracking the related actions. Users can communicate with Muse through the app or WhatsApp. Meta emphasizes that sending email and completing purchases require user approval, and that users determine which services the app is allowed to access.

A revenue model based on subscriptions and commissions

Muse includes free usage, along with a monthly subscription priced at $20 that provides higher limits for tasks and automations running in the background. More intensive use of the agent costs up to $100 per month. Meta also plans to collect commissions on purchases and bookings that the app makes on the user’s behalf.

Why download figures are not enough

Surpassing five million downloads is a strong indicator of Meta’s ability to attract attention to the AI-agent category, but it does not show the number of active users or the proportion who converted to paid subscriptions. Meta will need to prove that downloads generated by promotion translate into repeated daily use, particularly because Muse’s value depends on delegating actual tasks to it, rather than trying it once.
