Voltpost has launched two new versions of its Voltpost Air Level 2 charger targeting parking facilities in residential and commercial buildings. Their design allows existing ceilings, walls, and columns to be used instead of carrying out extensive excavation or major parking-facility renovations.
The move follows Voltpost’s recognition for solutions that convert streetlight poles into electric-vehicle charging points. The two new models are the Voltpost Air Ceiling Mount, designed for installation on parking-garage ceilings, and the Surface Mount, which can be mounted on walls or columns.
Faster Installation with a Retractable Cable
Voltpost says the two models target property owners who want to add electric-vehicle charging without cutting into parking lots or carrying out major renovation work. According to the company’s estimate, installation can be completed within hours with little or no excavation, potentially reducing installation costs by up to 70%. This percentage remains a company estimate, as actual savings will depend on the nature of the site and its existing electrical infrastructure.
The Ceiling Mount model uses the AutoCoil system, which lowers the charging cable when needed and retracts it upward after use. The Surface Mount uses the same retractable system, but allows the charger to be mounted on walls or columns at sites where there is no suitable ceiling or pole to rely on.
The design is intended to keep charging cables off the parking-facility floor, where they could cause trips or be damaged by vehicles, water, or snow.
Specifications and Usage Options
Both models can be ordered with one or two charging ports, with a choice between J1772 and NACS connectors. Each charger provides up to 9.6 kilowatts of power, which Voltpost says may add approximately 25 to 30 miles of driving range per hour, depending on the electric vehicle.
Drivers can pay through the Voltpost app, a credit card, or an RFID card. The chargers also connect to AT&T’s cellular network for remote monitoring and can appear on Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, Uber, Tesla, and other automaker apps.
