JLR has opened orders for the Range Rover Electric, the first electric vehicle from Range Rover, after more than 61,000 people expressed interest since the waiting list opened in late 2023. The starting price for the base SE trim is $140,450 in the United States and £154,070 in the United Kingdom, according to the announced prices on an OTR basis.
The vehicle retains the familiar design of Range Rover vehicles, with electric-focused modifications including a closed-off front grille, new wheels, and a dedicated underbody design intended to improve efficiency and range. The company says the vehicle has undergone the most intensive development testing of any of its vehicles to date.
Electric Performance With Luxury SUV Specifications
The Range Rover Electric uses an all-wheel-drive system with two electric motors, producing a total of 542 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle reaches 60 miles per hour in as little as 4.3 seconds, figures that JLR describes as giving the vehicle “V8 levels of power.”
The vehicle uses a 118.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery made up of 344 prismatic cells in a dual-layer design. Its estimated range is approximately 333 miles under the EPA standard, while it reaches 372 miles under the WLTP standard. Fast Charging and Off-Road Capability
The electric system is based on an 800-volt architecture, enabling the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes. The company also says the vehicle can add approximately 136 miles of range in ten minutes of charging.
In North America, all versions come with an integrated NACS port, allowing the use of Tesla Supercharger stations without a separate adapter. In the United Kingdom and Europe, JLR says access is available to more than one million public chargers.
The vehicle has not abandoned its off-road capability; it can drive through water up to 35.4 inches deep, or approximately 900 millimeters, the same level cited by the company for the combustion-powered version.
What Changes in Practice?
JLR developed the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics and Integrated Traction Management systems specifically for the electric vehicle. According to the company, these systems control motor speeds within 50 milliseconds and manage wheel slip up to 100 times faster than an equivalent internal-combustion vehicle. A new app also enables control of climate functions, monitoring of the battery level, and scheduling of charging while the vehicle is plugged in.
The Range Rover Electric is available with standard- and long-wheelbase configurations. The LWB First Edition starts at $183,850 and includes a refrigerator in the front console, a Tailgate Event Suite package, and illuminated metal sills bearing First Edition logos.
