92.7% of Medium and Large Turkish Companies Have an Internet Connection

The Turkish Statistical Institute announced the results of the “2026 Survey on Information and Communications Technologies Usage in Enterprises,” presenting an overview of the level of digital connectivity, e-commerce, cloud adoption, and security readiness among companies with 10 or more employees in Türkiye.

Widespread connectivity, but uneven speeds

The results showed that 92.7% of the surveyed companies use a fixed internet connection. In terms of the highest subscribed speed, 47.1% of companies rely on speeds below 100 megabits per second, while 43.7% use speeds between 100 and 999 megabits per second, and 9.2% use speeds of 1 gigabit per second or higher. Thus, the share of companies with a fixed connection at speeds of 100 megabits per second or higher reached 52.9%.

These figures indicate that internet availability is no longer the only indicator of digital maturity; the gap between basic connectivity and higher speeds remains wide, particularly when comparing smaller companies with larger enterprises.

E-commerce and social media

The share of companies using social media applications rose from 55.2% in 2025 to 57.7% in 2026. Companies with 250 or more employees recorded the highest rate, at 86.6%, compared with 68.4% for companies with between 50 and 249 employees and 55% for companies with between 10 and 49 employees.

As for sales over the internet or electronic data interchange (EDI), the rate reached 17.1% in 2025, compared with 13.6% in 2024. Accommodation and food service activities made the greatest use of electronic sales, at 43.3%, followed by publishing, broadcasting, television, and content activities at 25.4%, then wholesale and retail trade at 23.7%.

Cloud services and digital skills

The share of companies using paid cloud computing services reached 20.2%. A clear variation appears according to company size: 57% among companies with 250 or more employees, 33.3% among companies with between 50 and 249 employees, and just 16.7% among companies with between 10 and 49 employees.

In addition, 15.2% of companies employed an information and communications technologies specialist during 2026, compared with 13.4% in 2024. In 2025, 6.4% of companies attempted to recruit at least one specialist, and 31.7% of these companies said they had faced difficulties in recruitment. High salary expectations were the leading difficulty, at 82.6%, followed by candidates lacking the required qualifications, at 71.8%, and a shortage of relevant experience, at 71%.

What do the security indicators reveal?

The share of companies that took at least one measure to protect their information and communications technology systems rose from 76% in 2024 to 83% in 2026. However, 9.4% of companies reported experiencing at least one security incident during 2025. The main incidents included being unable to access information and communications technology services due to external attacks, at 6.4%; data loss or damage caused by malware or unauthorized access, at 5.6%; and breaches of data confidentiality due to intrusion, fraud, phishing, or deliberate actions by employees, at 5.3%.

Editorial reading: The survey’s significance lies in presenting digital transformation and cybersecurity in a single picture: internet connectivity is nearly widespread, but cloud use and the hiring of specialists remain much lower, with a clear gap continuing between small and large companies. The increase in the share of security measures also does not eliminate the fact that 9.4% of companies experienced incidents, highlighting the difference between adopting a security measure and having the actual ability to prevent or contain incidents. The data published here do not specify the type of security measures or the severity of the incidents’ impacts, so they cannot be used alone to accurately measure the level of technical protection.
