Genesis, the luxury brand owned by Hyundai Motor Group, has revealed its large GV90 electric vehicle during an event in San Francisco, presenting it as a flagship model and a platform for showcasing new technologies that could later reach higher-volume Hyundai and Kia vehicles. The vehicle arrives a decade after Genesis was established as an independent brand in 2015, at a time when Hyundai says the brand has achieved rapid growth in the luxury vehicle market.
A flagship electric vehicle with large specifications
The GV90 is based on the new eMP platform, which Hyundai developed exclusively for the flagship model. The vehicle is 5,285 millimeters long, 2,030 millimeters wide, and 1,815 millimeters high, with a 3,245-millimeter wheelbase. It becomes slightly lower, at 1,814 millimeters, when equipped with 24-inch wheels.
The vehicle receives a 123.5-kilowatt-hour battery, the largest among Hyundai Motor’s electric vehicles according to the article. The expected range of the seven-seat version is around 500 kilometers, while the system supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kilowatts, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes.
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces a combined maximum output of 657 horsepower, or 490 kilowatts, with torque of up to 800 newton-meters. The vehicle also uses a multi-chamber air suspension system and an electronic limited-slip differential.
Coach doors and a cabin resembling a private lounge
The GV90 is available in the Neolun version with coach doors, alongside standard versions with conventional side doors. Genesis says that the Neolun Arch Gate system provides the first coach doors that open and close independently without a B-pillar, according to the company’s description of the technology.
The platform was designed to provide greater interior space, with front seats that rotate 180 degrees when the vehicle is stopped to create a face-to-face arrangement between passengers. Equipment also includes genuine wood floors with a radiant heating system, a system of 12 airbags integrated into the roof, and an interior refrigerator for the second row.
The cabin includes a retractable cinematic OLED screen measuring 23.6 inches while driving and reaching 24.6 inches when stopped. Instead of a conventional instrument cluster, a 25-inch Head-Up Display projects the speed, navigation directions, and some driver-assistance system functions onto the windshield.
A software platform and an AI voice assistant
The GV90 uses Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect infotainment platform, built on the Android Automotive Operating System. The platform provides customizable applications and interfaces while retaining physical buttons for controlling the volume, climate, and other functions.
The vehicle includes the Gleo AI voice assistant, built on a large language model. According to the article, the assistant can adapt to conversations rather than being limited to specific voice commands, and it can also be used to search for a nearby restaurant or direct the vehicle to a particular location. Equipment includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 25 speakers that supports Dolby Atmos, along with self-parking systems and a reversing assistant that remembers the vehicle’s path for exiting tight spaces.
What changes in practice?
The GV90 does not merely offer incremental increases in capacity or equipment; it combines a large battery, fast charging, a cabin designed around luxury use, and a new software interface. This makes it a test of Genesis’s ability to compete with luxury brands in the upper segment, rather than simply an addition to its electric vehicle lineup.
However, some key information remains unresolved. Genesis has not announced the final price or full availability details. The expectations cited in the article indicate a starting price of around $100,000 for the standard version in the United States, while the GV90 Neolun could approach $150,000 or more, but these are not officially announced prices.
The Neolun First Edition will be available with four seats, two-tone exterior paint, 24-inch body-colored wheels, as well as cashmere wool trim and special emblems. Genesis also plans to expand into new markets, including Spain by the end of 2026, after Italy, France, the Netherlands, Tunisia, and Morocco earlier in the year. The company said that an extended-range electric SUV will arrive in early 2027 with a total range exceeding 640 miles, but this represents a separate program from the GV90.
