BYD Sets Launch Date for Great Han with a Range of Up to 1,008 Kilometers
BYD has announced that its new flagship electric sedan, the Great Han, will launch in China on October 13, after presales opened in August with a starting price of 249,900 yuan, or approximately $37,200. The car belongs to the large-sedan segment within the Dynasty family and is called the Da Han in China.

Lu Tian, general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, confirmed that the car will offer a range of up to 1,008 kilometers under the CLTC standard. The Great Han appeared in June on a list of new energy vehicles approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, before the company opened presales during the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21.

Three Versions and Different Ranges

The car is available in three models combining rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The rear-wheel-drive Premium version starts at 249,900 yuan, while the Flagship version starts at 269,900 yuan. The electric motor in both versions produces 370 kilowatts, paired with a 102.326-kilowatt-hour battery and a claimed range of up to 1,008 kilometers.

The all-wheel-drive version adds a front electric motor, increasing total output to 570 kilowatts, or 764 horsepower, but reducing its range to 880 kilometers under the same standard, while using the same battery pack.

Fast Charging and Equipment

All versions come with a Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology. BYD says that the 1,500-kilowatt charging system can raise the battery level from 10% to 70% in five minutes, while charging from 10% to 97% takes approximately nine minutes.

The Great Han measures 5,256 millimeters in length, 1,999 millimeters in width, and 1,510 millimeters in height, with a 3,130-millimeter wheelbase. Based on the stated dimensions, it is larger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, and is close in size to the long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class.

What Matters in Practice?

The Great Han combines a CLTC range exceeding 1,000 kilometers with extremely fast charging, placing it at the center of BYD’s push into the higher-priced vehicle segment rather than focusing solely on mass-market models. However, the stated range and charging figures are the company’s figures under the CLTC standard and alone do not establish actual performance under different driving conditions.

Standard equipment includes the dual-chamber DiSus-A air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and front seats with a zero-gravity position. All versions also receive the God’s Eye B driver-assistance system, which includes functions such as navigation-assisted autonomous driving and remote parking. The source did not mention details about availability outside China or prices in global markets.
