WETOX is offering the D2 power adapter through a Kickstarter campaign, aiming to enable electric vehicles that do not natively include bidirectional charging functionality to power devices and equipment using energy stored in their batteries. The adapter uses the vehicle’s original charging port to provide vehicle-to-load, or V2L, capabilities for several Tesla models, as well as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and other electric vehicles.

The campaign targets the North American and European markets and offers versions compatible with the NACS, CCS1, and CCS2 standards. According to the published material, backers’ pledges for the campaign had exceeded $120,000 at the time it was prepared, with the campaign scheduled to continue until August 30, 2026.

An Adapter for Cars That Do Not Natively Support V2L

WETOX says the D2 was designed for electric-vehicle owners who want to use their vehicle’s battery to power tools, camping equipment, lighting, and some essential household appliances during power outages, without buying a new vehicle equipped with factory-installed V2L functionality. The vehicles mentioned include the Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y, along with the Ford Mustang Mach-E, while the company has announced that additional models will be added in the future.

WETOX says it is drawing on more than four years of experience developing V2L adapters, as well as a supply chain previously used for GB/T adapters intended for Tesla and NIO vehicles and other electric vehicles. Safety and Water Resistance

According to WETOX, the D2 includes an internally molded structure specially designed to help secure the components and improve sealing. The company presents this as a solution providing protection throughout the component chain, including use during heavy rain.

WETOX says some V2L adapters may trigger the Tesla battery-heating mechanism, which could result in additional power consumption or phantom drain when no devices are connected. The company says the D2’s software protocol bypasses this heating trigger, so power consumption is limited to what the connected devices draw. These results remain claims made by the company in the campaign material.

To support its claims regarding durability and efficiency, WETOX points to a continuous, uninterrupted 13-hour stress test with a maximum load of 3,600 watts, during which the vehicle battery charge fell from 93% to 19%. The company also says the D2 was up to 40% more efficient than other V2L adapter brands. The company further presents a global insurance plan covering accidental damage to the adapter, vehicle, individuals, and connected devices, and explicitly mentions coverage for cases involving the voiding of the vehicle warranty.

Software Compatibility and an SGS Certification Report

WETOX explains that current vehicle limitations restrict the D2 under the ISO 15118-2 standard, but that it is preparing the product for forthcoming developments. According to the company, the D2 received the world’s first SGS certification report for ISO 15118-20, which covers next-generation V2X communications protocols. The source presents this achievement as a step toward standardizing V2X communications and expanding their commercial use, rather than as an immediate removal of all current compatibility limitations.

The company plans to add support for one new electric model each quarter through over-the-air updates, while allowing software adjustments for existing device owners.
